Abuja, June 16, 2017 (NAN) The Jigawa Government says it will construct additional 30 Primary Health Centres across the state as part of the initiatives to provide healthcare services to people.
Dr Kabir Ibrahim, the Executive Secretary of State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday.
Ibrahim said that the state government was committed to provide basic healthcare services in every political ward in enhancing healthcare delivery system at the grassroots to improve the people’s health status.
According to him, the proposed 30 health centres to be constructed by the state government will complement the existing 216 in the state.
“The state needs 41 more primary health centres to cover all the 287 political wards in the state.
“With this, more than 80 per cent of required functional health facilities at ward levels would have been achieved.’’
Ibrahim said that the state government had recruited 450 primary health workers and posted them to health centres across the state.
Accordingly, the state government absorbed 119 midwives from Midwives Service Scheme of the Federal Government, recruited and posted 33 midwives from various schools of nursing to health centres, he said.
“We (government) are in a process of recruiting 90 more health workers to ensure that we have enough and required human resources.
“This is in line with task shifting policy recommended by national health policy to address human resources’ gap in the health system,” he said.
Ibrahim said that the government procured drugs and necessary equipment in the primary health centres being part of the measures to spur healthcare delivery in the state. (NAN)
