Jigawa Govt. disburses N13.6m cash assistance to 436 fire victims

Dutse, Oct. 13, 2017 (NAN) The Jigawa Government on Friday began the disbursement of over N13.6 million to 436 victims of fire outbreak in the state.

Alhaji Yusuf Babura, Executive Secretary, Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), made this known at the flag off of the exercise in Bakin Ruwa village of Dutse Local Government area of the state.

Babura said that the amount would be distributed to affected victims across the 22 local government areas of the state.

He explained that each of the victims would be given twenty per cent of what he or she lost to the inferno, depending on the level of damages recorded.

The executive secretary pointed out that the assistance was provided by the state government to ease the hardship and suffering the victims.

According to him, the exercise is being conducted after the agency had conducted an assessment of the level of damage caused by the fire outbreaks.

“We are giving this cash assistance to 436 victims of fire outbreaks in 22 local government areas of the state.

“We are starting with Dutse LGA from Bakin Ruwa village where as you can see we gave the assistance to seven victims.

“The total amount to be disbursed is N13.6 million to the 436 affected victims in the 22 LGAs.

“The money is provided by the state government to ease the hardship and suffering of the affected victims,” the executive secretary said.

He, therefore, warned people in the state against carelessness in the use of fire, particularly during the harmattan.

According to him, the advice becomes necessary in order to avoid fire disasters during the dry season, as most of the houses particularly in rural communities could easily catch fire.

He stressed the need for continuous sensitisation and enlightenment of the public on the dangers of harmattan winds.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports seven victims benefitted from the gesture in Bakin Ruwa village where the exercise was launched.

The beneficiaries, Adamu Musa reviewed N79, 000 as twenty per cent of what he lost, Abdullahi Musa got N68,000 and Idris Idi got N26,000.

Others are: Abubakar Idris N24,000, Malam Abdullahi N16,000 and Ibrahim Ligidi N10,000.

The victims commended the state government and the agency for the kind gesture. (NAN)
