PAYE

Dutse, Sept. 12, 2017 (NAN) Jigawa Government has directed operators of petrol filling Stations in the state to remit the Pay-As-You-Earn Tax (PAYE) of their staff to its coffers.
A statement by Alhaji Isma’il Ibrahim, the spokesman, Ministry of Finance, said that Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning, Alhaji Umar Namadi, gave the directive during a meeting with the managers of the stations and officials of the state’s Board of Internal Revenue in Dutse on Tuesday.
Ibrahim said Namadi told the managers that PAYE was a withholding tax on income payments to employees and it was mandated by law for every salary earner in Nigeria to pay tax under the PAYE scheme.
According to Ibrahim, the Executive Chairman of the state’s Board, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed, said the board would soon embark on sensitisation tour to enlighten the filling stations staff on the importance of paying PAYE tax.
He added that the filling managers assured the state government that they would give all the necessary support and cooperation to achieve the desired goals. (NAN)
