Ilorin, June 5, 2017 (NAN) Seven tertiary institutions in Kwara will participate in the qualifiers for the forthcoming JAMB/Tertiary Institutions Football Championship.
The institutions are to slug it out for the two tickets to represent Kwara in the competition scheduled to hold in July in Ilorin.
Chairman of the competition’s Technical Committee, Tunde Kazeem, told newsmen on Monday in Ilorin that the qualifiers would be a knock-out event.
“It will begin on Tuesday and end on Friday, with the two finalists qualifying for the championship proper,’’ he said.
Kazeem said the matches would be played at both the Main Bowl of the Kwara Sports Complex and the Kwara Football Academy (KFA) pitch.
According to the fixtures, College of Education, Ilorin will take on Kwara State Polytechnic at the Main-Bowl, while Muideen College of Education tackle Federal Polytechnic, Offa, at the KFA pitch.
Both matches will begin by 10 a.m.
Also, College of Education, Oro will battle Crown Hill University from 11.30am, at the Main-Bowl.
Already, Kwara State University (KWASU) are already through to the semi-finals, following the withdrawal of Al-Hikma University.
Kazeem, who is also the Kwara Director of Sports, said the two semi-finals would be played on Wednesday while the third-place and final matches hold on Friday.
He then advised the participating institutions against the use of mercenaries and professional players, pointing out that a thorough screening would be conducted and institutions found wanting would be disqualified.
Sixteen institutions will play in the championship’s finals in Ilorin from July 23 to July 30, with four participants each coming from NUGA, NIPOGA and NACEGA.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the rest four participants will come from Innovative Entrepreneur Initiative (IEI) and hosts Kwara State, with both providing two teams each.(NAN)
