Jos, Jan. 23, 2018 (NAN) The Industrial Trust Fund (ITF), says its programmes for the empowerment of youths and women is the country will only succeed in a peaceful environment where safety of lives and property are guaranteed.

The ITF’s Director-General, Prof.  Joseph Ari, made this remark when he received the Plateau Commissioner of Police, Mr Undie Adie, in his office on Tuesday in Jos.

He said that partnership between the Fund and the Police would ensure the success of its programmes in 2018.

“Collaboration with the police will ensure success of a result-oriented programme and curbing of nefarious activities for accelerated development,” he said.

Ari said that no programme could succeed without peace while commending the police commissioner for responding promptly to distress calls from members of the public since his assumption of office in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Adie assumed duty in September, 2017.

The director-general said criminal activities generally hindered development projects, adding that the importance of a healthy environment for the development of the society could not be over emphasised.

He listed programmes targeted at building the skills of youths and women in the society to include the National Industrial Skills Development Programme (NISDP), Women Skills Empowerment Programme (WOSEP) and the Technical Skills Development Programme (TSDP).

He called on the police to step up its security measures aimed at ensuring safety of lives and property across the country.

He stressed that the ITF’s programmes being implemented could only succeed in an environment where lives and property were safe.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Police, said the visit was part of activities geared toward ensuring adequate protection of  organisations and their workers.

“We have an open door policy for members of the society to access us easily; we have given our numbers to the public using the media and other platforms.

“We want the public to report any police officer who is ridiculing the integrity of the force,” he said.

NAN reports that high-points of the visit are the presentation of ITF Training Module and its 2018 Learning and Development Brochure among others to the Police Commissioner. (NAN)
