Capacity

Lagos, June 16, 2018(NAN) The Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON) on Saturday said capacity building was key to indigenous software development in the country.
The President of ISPON, Dr Yele Okeremi made this assertion in a media briefing in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that ISPON is the industry professional body for indigenous software developers and practitioners in the country.
ISPON was established in 1999 with the aim of creating an enabling environment for local content developers.
“When human capital is created, developed, insecurity will be a thing of the past and there will be meaningful employment that will generate revenues and proceeds for the country.
“In terms of developing the industry, the country needs to be more serious about tackling challenges associated with software practice.
“The agenda of the current executive which was elected recently is capacity building and which we believe will be key to solving the problems in the software industry.
“The situation presently in the industry is likened to the son of a meat seller that does not have a piece of meat to eat.
“This is because in other climes, people who are successful are in the software and tech field but what we find here is people who make money are in other sectors.
“This is the reason opportunity should be given to people who want to go into software development and not seeing them as comedians,” he said.
Okeremi, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Precise Financial Systems Ltd (PFS), a software company called for collaboration among stakeholders to sensitise themselves and make people to understand that the existing Nigerian software were of good quality.
“The industry needs support from stakeholders even in other sectors as regards jobs that will enable them prove their worth in the country.
“There is also need for government inputs but we also as individuals and stakeholders will also push to see that the industry is given its recognition,” he said. (NAN)
