Sokoto, Feb. 24, 2017 (NAN) A Sokoto-based Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Abubakar Jibril, has appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, to support the families of deceased police officers by speedily paying their entitlements.

Jibril, who is also the Chief Imam of Farfaru Juma’at Mosque, Sokoto, made the call on Friday in his sermon.

“The families of the deceased officers need to be well considered and supported by the government as this will surely ease their pains of losing their loved ones.

“These officers lost their lives in service to humanity and security for the lives and properties of Nigerians; as such, their families require special treatment.

“Moreover, officers and men of the Nigerian Police need to be treated well just like other citizens.”

He advised management of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure the conduct of stringent screening f new recruits.

This, he noted, was necessary to avoid recruiting bad eggs into the force, to boost discipline and efficiency of the personnel.

“This will boost mutual understanding between police officers and the members of the public.”

Jibril also urged the people to pray fervently for the country, the state and President Muhammadu Buhari. (NAN)
