Kano, Dec. 2, 2016 (NAN) Alhaji Garba Bichi, the Chairman, Agro seed Growers Association of Nigeria, Kano State Chapter, has advised farmers to engage in cultivation of maize and groundnut during the irrigation season.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Kano, he said this would ensure massive production of the two commodities during the dry season farming.
“If farmers produce the commodities, it will go a long way in boosting food production as well as increasing the farmers’ income.”
According to him, there was need for farmers in the state to include the two commodities in the number of crops they produce during the irrigation season to enhance their economy.
He stressed the need for farmers in the state to make the best use of the opportunity provided by the Federal Government to boost food production in the country.
He said the present administration under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari was committed to providing the needed support to farmers in the country.
He specifically commended the Federal Government for introducing various programmes and interventions aimed at boosting agricultural production especially the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Anchor Borrower Programme for the production of rice and wheat.
“Many farmers have benefitted from the programme especially in the targeted states,” he said. (NAN)
