IPCR says institutions capacity building will free Nigeria of violence

Abuja, July 31, 2017 (NAN) Prof. Oshita Oshita, the Director General, Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has stressed the need to build capacities of Nigeria’s institutions to wipe out culture of violence in the country.
Oshita said this while declaring open the 1ST Advanced Conflict Management Course (ACMC) of the Institute’s National Peace Academy (NPA) on Monday in Abuja.
“For the Nigerian infrastructure for Peace to work, the capacities of the personnel and staff of strategic institutions and organisations must continually be built to strengthen the operations of the peace infrastructure,” he said.
He said that the Basic Conflict Management Course (ACMC) of the academy which started in 2016 served as the foundational course.
The director-general said that the curriculum had been elevated to a higher level for the ACMC.
According to him, the institute has previewed meetings with the facilitators who have proven to be highly experienced.
He enjoined the participants to make the best use of the opportunities being offered by the institute as pioneer students of the ACMC.
He said that in fulfilling part of its mandate, the IPCR through the NPA would continue to provide various training needs to build clusters of peace practitioners in the country.
The Head of the NPA, Dr Bosede Awodola said that more than 30 individuals from different agencies and CSOs across the country were participating in the two-week long course.

She said that the training was to equip the participants with necessary skills that would enable them play meaningful roles in stabilising the country, especially as it was going through challenging times.
Awodola said that the participants were from Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Prisons, Judiciary, Peace Corps, Department of Security Service and Ministry of Foreign Affairs

According to her, facilitators for the training are drawn from the Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna, University of Ibadan, University of Maiduguri, and the National Defence College, Abuja among others.(NAN)
