Lagos, Feb. 22, 2017 (NAN) The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has launched a new educational project called “I’m Possible’’ to engage young people in the paralympic movement.

According to a statement on IPC website on Wednesday, the project is a toolkit created by IPC development arm, Agitos Foundation for children between the ages of six to 12.

It said the Japanese version of the project was launched by IPC President, Philip Craven and project partners Mitsunori Torihara, Chairperson of Japanese Paralympic Committee (JPC).

Yasushi Yamawaki, Chairperson of Nippon Foundation Paralympic Support Centre (NFPSC) was also at the event held in Tokyo.

According to the statement, Craven says the global launch will hold later this year.

“Educating youngsters about the outstanding abilities of Para-athletes and the values they stand for will see them return home to educate their parents and grandparents about the Paralympic Movement.

“Normally, it’s the other way round with adults passing on their knowledge to youngsters, but that’s the joy of the Paralympic Movement and reverse education. Youngsters become the teachers.

“I am certain that this programme will not just build excitement but act as a catalyst to social inclusion with the next generation realising that everything in this world is possible,’’ it quoted Craven as saying.

The statement added that “I’m Possible’’ as name is inspired by an iconic moment from the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games.

It said that the content features Para-sport and the inspirational achievements of Para-athletes to showcase ability.

The materials will be available in different languages, including English, Japanese, French, Spanish and Armenian, while additional language versions will be created as different members commit to implementing the toolkit. (NAN)
