IPAC chairman cautions against giving Nigeria bad image

Damaturu, April 5, 2018 (NAN) Alhaji Umar Kukuri, Chairman, Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Yobe has appealed to Nigerians to desist from politicising national issues with the aim of giving the country a bad image.

The chairman made the appeal on Thursday in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu.

He said national issues should be judged on merits and appreciated or condemned on their merits and not for political reasons.

“By so doing, you encourage the government in power to excel where it has achieved and condemn constructively where you feel it requires improvement.

“It does not make sense when you do not see anything good in a government simply because it is a government from a different political party.

“Similarly, it is not possible to see your government as perfect, therefore, Nigerians need to be constructive in criticisms and accommodating to genuine such criticisms,” he said.

According to Kukuri, attack on government and its policies just to give it a bad image is unpatriotic and misleading.

He said that just as is applicable in advance democracies, opposition should not function to undermine programmes and policies aimed at improving the lives of the people.

“We should see the issues of security, fight against corruption and developmental projects like road construction, education and food production from a nationalistic point of view and not defined along political leanings.

“Nigeria remains our only country, we must work together to see it grow and get the respect it deserves locally and internationally,” Kukuri said.(NAN)
