Int’l Vocational College in Kwara begins operation  next year, says Commissioner

Ajase-Ipo(Kwara), Dec 21, 2016 (NAN) The International Vocational, Technical and Entrepreneurship College (IVTEC) in Ajase-Ipo, Irepodun Local Government area of Kwara State will begin operation in the first quarter of 2017.

Alhaji Musa Yeketi, the Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, made the announcement in Ajase-Ipo on Wednesday while taking over the project from the construction company, Duravil Engineering Ltd.

Yeketi expressed delight with the quality of job done at the site, saying that Gov Abdulfatah Ahmed had ordered for the supply of equipment to the school.

According to him, competent hands have been engaged at the managerial level to ensure good administration for the college.

“The handing over of this project is to kick-start the beginning of learning in this school.

“Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed has assured that training will commence here in the first quarter of 2017.

“Everything is completed now. Gov Ahmed has ordered for equipment to the school,” he said.

The commissioner said that the rector of the school, a foreigner, registrar, ICT expert and five Nigerian instructors as well head of departments had been hired.

He said that the college would start  with training in five vocational courses including  Automobile Mechanic, Building/Concreting, Carpentry, Welding and Electrical/Air-conditioning.

Earlier,  Mr Theophilus Olarewaju, Director, Human Capital Development in the ministry,  said the contract for the  project was awarded  in 2012.

He said that the college would  promote entrepreneurship and vocational skills in the state, country as well as  in Africa.

Olarewaju said that the college, which was conceived in line with the shared prosperity thrust of the current administration, was constructed according to specifications.

Mr Abass Hammoud, the Managing Director, Duravil Engineering Ltd.,  said that the successful completion of the project was based on harmonious relationship between the ministry of education and the contractor.

Hamoud assured the state government that the edifice would stand  the test of time based on the quality of job executed.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the college  complex consists of  workshop buildings, administrative blocks, a multipurpose conference hall, staff quarters, restaurant and clinic,  among others. (NAN)
