Abuja, Sept.18, 2016 (NAN) Mr Wale Bolarin, an interior designer, on Sunday, urged youths in the country to acquire skills that would make them self-reliant instead of waiting for white-collar jobs.

Bolarin, who is the Executive Officer of an interior design outfit in Abuja, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said most unemployed youths had lots of potential but needed the push and creativity to tap such ability to better their lives and contribute positively to the society.

According to him, the present economic recession is enough reason for youths to have a rethink on how to move forward and that of the community at large forward.

He advised that “youths must not continue to wait for government to employ them. Learning a skill or two makes you a boss of yourself.

“You should be able to pay your bills while having fun in the process.”

On interior decoration, Bolarin said the skill was a growing industry with huge potential.

He noted that “if you spend so much in constructing and designing a building, you should also spend time and effort on the inside because that is the part you actually inhabit.

“Definitely, we are really trying to grow the industry and encourage local talents, thereby reducing the unemployment rate in the country.

“People must learn to be self-reliant with the present economic recession.”

The interior designer further advised youths to practice whatever skill they had developed with indepth passion in order for it to grow and for them to derive maximum benefit from it.

He called on the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders to encourage unique Nigerians who went out of their ways to showcase their potential for the development of the country.

This, he said, would go a long way to encourage them to do more and also make others build up their talents. (NAN)
