Lagos, Oct. 5, 2017 (NAN) Kano State Handball Association (KSHA) on Thursday said its forthcoming Inter-Clubs Open Championships would ensure national players were not match-rusty ahead of international competitions.

Solomon Yola, KSHA’s Head Coach, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the championships scheduled for October would also enhance players’ commitment to training.

Yola said the championships being sponsored by Musa Hamza, the KSHA Chairman, would also be a forum to identify vibrant players and raise teams for the state ahead of bigger competitions.

“We understand that the new board is trying to settle down and look into various issues across the states, but the situation has not reduced our training tempo.

“So, the seriousness in us gingered our Chairman to ensure that we have a level-playing ground to evaluate our form and make players to be happy,’’ he said.

The coach said arrangements were in top gear to ensure the purpose of the championships was achieved, while only certified referees would be given the opportunity to officiate.

He said the championships were part of the Association’s 2017 activities which clubs in the state have been looking forward to feature in.

Yola added that there would be cash prizes, trophies, certificates and gift items for the Most Valuable Players (MVP) in the four-day event.

He said he was sure that KSHA would produce a formidable club to represent the country in the next Confederation of African Handball (CAHB) continental championships.

“The championships will also serve as part of the state’s preparations for the 2018 national club championships to be organised by the Handball Federation of Nigeria(HFN).(NAN)
