Abuja, May 9, 2018 (NAN)Dr Badewa Adejugbe-Williams, an educational therapist, on Wednesday urged parents and guardians to seek educational therapy for children who have learning impediments.
Adejugbe-Williams, said that such children’s academic achievements could be boosted with the right learning techniques in a statement in Abuja.
According to her, some children experience difficulties in language, vocabulary, decoding, reading comprehension, written expression, time management, math reasoning and computation.
“However, these difficulties could be due to intellectual disability, autism, dyslexia, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, attention deficit, hyperactive disorder and other learning challenges and conditions.
Emphasising the importance of seeking therapy rather than shaming affected children, Adejugbe-Williams said, “Educational therapy demystifies learning problems and stimulates clients’ awareness of their strengths.
“They can use those strengths to their best advantage to overcome or compensate for their areas of weaknesses,” she said.
Adejugbe-Williams, who is also a seasoned Educational specialist and runs the Royal School of Educational Therapy Foundation (RSET-F) in Abuja, explained the importance of educational therapists for children.
“Educational therapists create and implement a treatment plan that utilises information from a variety of sources including the client’s social, emotional, psycho-educational neuro-physiological context.”
She said that her educational therapy, centres RSET-F, has been helping intellectual disabled children boost their learning ability and increase their confidence.
The Not-for-profit organisation caters for children of diverse ages with neuro-developmental disabilities and those at risk of academic failure.
Meanwhile, children from the RSET-F will be having an exhibition to showcase their various artistic works on May 12 in Abuja. (NAN)
