Institute trains 3,000 persons on hospitality, tourism businesses

Abuja, March 19, 2018 (NAN) The National Institute of Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), Abuja, said on Monday that it trained over 3,000 persons within the FCT on various aspects of hospitality and tourism in 2017.

The Head of Hospitality Department in the institute, Mrs. Flora Goka, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

Goka said that the training was aimed at improving the quality of services in the country’s hospitality and tourism industry, in order to meet the international standard.

She listed some of the courses undertook by the trainees to include Tourism and Recreation, Transport Management, Event Management, Tour Guiding and Travel Agency operations.

Others are Tour Packaging and Operations, Park and Garden Operations, Tourist Sourvenir Making, Dish Preparation and House Keeping.

“ We trained them on various courses relating to the hospitality and tourism sector on both short and full time basis to enable them to meet up with the international standard.

“ Tourism is an industry that can boost the nation’s economy and we at the institute aim to promote the sector by training people to improve the quality of services in the industry.’’

She said the institute was committed to training and empowering the workforce of the travel and hospitality sectors.

Goka added that this would increase tourism activities, create jobs and generate income to individuals and government.

The head of department added that more persons were expected to be trained this year. (NAN)
