Dutse, Feb. 21, 2017 (NAN) Chairman of Jigawa Manpower Development Institute (MDI), Alhaji Idi Bukar, has called on the  State House of Assembly to enact a law that would  enable the prosecution of parents who refuse to enroll  their children in  schools.

The chairman  made the call in a statement he  issued in Dutse on Tuesday, decrying  the large number of children in rural areas across the state who had not been enrolled  in primary schools .

Bukar described education as the key to success for every individual, adding that no nation could develop without it.

The chairman explained that  poverty could some times be as a result of lack of education among the people as such persons were often  “degraded and unproductive” in the society.

According to him, an educated society experiences rapid  progress  and the  people live a happy life.

“I wish to observe with dismay that enrollment of children into primary schools in the rural areas of the state is still far below expectation.

“This is because some parents in the villages do not care to carry out their civic responsibility of sending their children to school.

“I therefore wish to call on them to make sure that they enroll their children in schools from primary up to tertiary institutions, and give them all the necessary support and encouragement to acquire  education,” he said.

He then called on all stakeholders involved in enrolling children in schools, to  redouble their efforts , pointing out that the state was in need of resourceful  manpower  to fast track its  development .
