Maiduguri, Feb. 28, 2018 (NAN) The Adamawa Government has trained political, religious and traditional leaders on early warning and emergency response to reinforce security and promote peace in the state.

Dr Agoro Bamaiyi, Principal Special Assistant to Gov. Jibirilla Bindow, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri on Wednesday that the action was part of measures to ensure return of peace in the state.

Bamaiyi said the training of leaders in various sectors was to facilitate quick response in case of crisis.

“We have compiled a list of all traditional leaders, we have 104 districts and we have village and ward heads; under them we have 21 chairmen of Local Government Areas and all the councillors in the 226 wards.

“We have also compiled a list of all political leaders; we have three senators, eight members of the House of Representatives, 25 members of the State House of Assembly.

“We have their contact details; they will be put through training and given phones by which they can contact relevant authorities if there is any trouble at the local level so that response can be prompt.

“It is much more likely, for instance, for the Commissioner of Police to take action when a senator representing a certain zone contacts him about an issue rather than when an ordinary person in the area did so,” he said.

Bamaiyi explained that the emergency declared on the education sector in the state was to put in place safety measures in schools to boost security.

“Part of the emergency response involves rebuilding the schools, putting perimeter fencing and providing security; most of the schools right now are exposed.

“We are making sure that our schools are well protected and our children can go to schools and return home safely; it is an on-going process and we hope to fine tune it as we move forward,” he said. (NAN)
