INEC trains staff ahead of June 2 bye-election in Oyo

Ibadan, May 22, 2018 (NAN) The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo state, on Tuesday began training of 14 supervisory presiding officers for the June 2 Ibarapa State Constituency bye-election.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Mr Mutiu Agboke, said that the training was part of the commission’s preparations for successful conduct of the election.
Declaring the training open, Agboke said that the trainees were expected to re-train presiding officers and assistant presiding officers for the exercise to make them conversant with guidelines for conduct of the election.
He explained that the supervisory presiding officers would supervise all activities as regard field works on day of election and retrieve all materials at the end of the exercise.
”Our determination is to make the bye-election peaceful and credible, and as such, this training will enhance the performance of our staff during the election,“ he said.
The REC urged the participants to listen attentively to the resource person so that the purpose of the training would be achieved.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ibarapa East seat in the House of Assembly became vacant following the death of Mr Michael Adeyemo, who represented the constituency.
Adeyemo was the speaker of the assembly until his death. (NAN)
