Igueben (Edo), Nov 8, 2016 (NAN) President Mohammadu Buhari said on Tuesday that the inauguration of the 29.7km Ujogba-Ebudin-Igueben road in Edo would make access to rural communities in the area easier.
Buhari said this at the inauguration of the road in Igueben, Igueben Local Government Area of the state.
The President expressed optimism that the road would heighten both social and economy activities “not just in the area, but in the state and country at large’’.
Earlier, Oshiomhole said that his administration’s decision to construct the road, was borne out of the difficulties he experienced in accessing communities in the area during his election campaign eight years ago.
Oshiomhole noted that none of the Millennium Development Goals could be achieved in such communities without accessible roads.
The governor added that with the Federal Government’s renewed emphasis on agriculture and with the roads in place, agricultural activities would improve.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Ujogba-Ebudin-Igueben road links all the five agrarian local government areas in Edo Central Senatorial District of the state.
He further said that the construction of the road was in furtherance of the state government’s efforts to discourage migration from the rural areas.
He added, “with this our action, my administration has demonstrated that there is life beyond the city.’’ (NAN)
