Ibadan, April 5, 2018 (NAN) The AgResult Aflasafe Pilot Project of  the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA),  Ibadan,  on Thursday began the training of   maize farmers on the use of aflasafe control and strategies to ensure stability in  business.

Speaking at the  opening of the three-day programme  in Ibadan,  the Project Director, Dr Debo Akande, said the training would focus on pre-harvest management of aflatoxin and aflasafe , a bio-control herbicide application.

He said  the training would also  focus  on maize agronomy in  increasing production and post-harvest safety precaution to maintain maize grain quality.

According to him, the project would also concentrate on  measures to reduce  aflatoxin, a virus that attacks  maize and  groundnuts.

Akande said the project was set up to demonstrate that the private sector could successfully be involved in agribusiness and agricultural innovation delivery  to influence how farmers could access  available technologies. (NAN)
