Bodinga (Sokoto State), Oct. 13, 2017 (NAN) The National Programme Coordinator, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Alhaji Lawal Ida, has urged communities to participate actively in the implementation of its programmes.
Ida, represented by the programme’s National Climate Change Officer, Mr Richard Nzekwu, made the appeal in Bodinga during the flag-off of its Participatory Land-Use Planning and Resource Mapping.
“The full participation of communities in our programmes will certainly create an avenue where the actual community action plan will be accomplished.
“We are going systematically in all our programme and activities.
“This is in line with the IFAD Climate Change Adaptation and Agribusiness Support Programme (CASP).
“We want to complement the Federal and state governments’ effort towards boosting agricultural activities in the country.
“That is the reason why we engaged all the communities to participate in the process and to come out with their needs related to agricultural production and productivity enhancement,’’ he said.
Ida explained that community participation would provide opportunities for the IFAD programme to know the resources of each community.
He said that this would also assist the programme come up with good ideas on harnessing such resources for the benefit of all.
Earlier in his address, the State Programme Coordinator, Alhaji Aminu Dogon-Daji, said that previous IFAD programmes in the area was successful because of joint efforts with communities.
Dogon-Daji lauded the communities’ efforts at safeguarding all the facilities provided by IFAD during its community programmes.
He cautioned them against misuse of anything IFAD would provide under its recent CASP in order to improve their outputs.
Dogon-Daji also commended the Sokoto State Government for its contributions to the programme at all times. (NAN)
