By Deborah Akpede
Ikeja, Feb. 5, 2018 (NAN) Three men — Opeyemi Abiodun, Saheed Adio and Adio Tairu — who allegedly hypnotised a woman before defrauding her of N300,000, were on Monday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The trio of ages 30, 45 and 49, was arraigned before Magistrate J.A. Adigun on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and obtaining money under false pretences.
The accused, who all reside in Agege area of Lagos, however, pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with two sureties each.
The magistrate said the sureties should be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment.
According to the Prosecutor, Police Sgt. Godwin Awase, the accused committed the offences on Dec. 21, 2017 on Pako Road, Orile-Agege, a Lagos suburb.
He alleged that the accused conspired and obtained N300, 000 from the complainant, Mrs Olayinka Odusina on the pretext of restoring all her lost glory which the “ enemies” had collected from her in the spirit realm.
“The complainant was going home on that fateful day when the accused approached and touched her with charms, commanding her to give them N300,000 for them to restore her glory.
“She gave them the money which belonged to her boss, and when her boss demanded for his money, she could not explain herself.
“The boss suspected that something was wrong with her, he invited his pastor who came to pray for her and she regained her senses.
“The complainant traced the accused and they were arrested and handed over to the police,’’ the prosecutor said.
The offences contravened Sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused face 15 years jail term, if found guilty of the offences according to the provisions of the Criminal Law.
The case was adjourned until Feb. 13. (NAN)
