Lagos Nov. 24, 2016 (NAN) President, Lagos Hoteliers Association (LHA), Mr Tola Odunuga, has appealed to the Lagos State Government (LASG) to harmonise the various taxes allotted to hotels in the state.

Odunuga told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos that hoteliers within Lagos had been mandated to pay different kinds of taxes over the years, and this had been very alarming.

The president said that in view of the present economic recession, the association had been forced to raise an alarm for help, so as to remain in business.

He said that over 24 different kinds of taxes were levied on hoteliers by the three tiers of government.

“We appeal to the governor to use his good offices with the various ministries, departments and agencies to harmonise the taxes.

“We also make a special appeal for the reduction of consumption tax from five per cent to 2.5 per cent which should be restricted to only lodging.

“We further appeal to exempt us from paying consumption tax on drinks and food.

“We don’t want to be forced out of business; neither do we wish to reduce the quality of our services.

“The economic realisation of the present time has not been friendly,’’ Odunuga said. (NAN)
