HFN President seeks stakeholders’ support to take handball to enviable peak

Abuja, July 29, 2017 (NAN) The President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Mr  Samuel Ocheho on Saturday solicited stakeholders’ support to reposition the game and take the sport to enviable peak .

Ocheho stated this at a two-day retreat for the newly inaugurated board members of the federation held in Abuja.

He said the retreat was organised for members of the board to discuss and chart the way forward for the game.

Ocheho said that the future of the game would be great for handball stakeholders in the country.

“For me it is a new dawn, new era, new beginning for every one of us in the handball family.

“I think it is time we need to begin afresh, we want to look at handball and see how we can move it forward,“he said.

He enjoined the members to work together to lift the game to a higher level.

” If we try to do it individually, the journey ahead might be very tough. But if we do it together as a board no mountain that we cannot surmount.

“We are all lovers of handball that is why we have come to discuss the way forward for handball.

“We must all look ahead and see how we can take handball to the next level, he said.

Ocheho promised to put in his best to deliver the handball that would meet the stakeholders’ dream.

He appealed to the media for its support help the board move the game forward.

Hawa Kulu-Akinyemi, the Director of Federations of Elite Athletes Department (FEAD), Ministry of Youths and Sport, advised the new board to abide by the code of governance if it must succeed.

Kulu-Akinyemi who was represented by Gloria Ekwempu, Assistant Director Coaching with FEAD, said that there must be transparency in the dealing of the federation.

” For any federation to succeed, it must abide by the code of governance, hold onto to, study and work with it.

“Federation must be accountable and transparent to the ministry.

She advised the board to work in unity to bring the sport to a greater height.

“You have being elected to work for the government, it is left for you to ensure that your players attended international and national competitions and win medals, “she said.
