Keffi (Nasarawa State), Nov. 3, 2017 (NAN) Higher Education Research and Policy Network (HERPNET) in conjunction with Nasarawa State University, has pledged to make educational research impact positively on Nigeria’s economy.

The President of HERPNET, Prof. Kolade Odekunle, made the pledge on Friday in Keffi at the organisation’s 12th regional conference with the theme “Higher Education Management, Research and Innovation for Sustainable Development’’.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that HERPNET is an international non-governmental association of researchers in higher education and policy makers from around the world affiliated to the United States Association for Institutional Research (AIR).

Founded in 2000 following a research meeting at Human Science Research Council (HSRC), Pretoria, South Africa, HERPNET, with headquarters in Nigeria, is an initiative of the Association of African Universities (AAU).

It is committed to strengthening higher education in Africa by providing a global forum for institutions, researchers and policy makers to discuss, examine and take action on issues of common interest.

This, it does, specifically by finding scientific solution to various problems facing higher education in Africa in general and in Nigeria in particular.

Membership of the network cut across different higher educational institutions and research institutes located in various countries in Africa.

Odekunle said that the major goal of the organisation was to influence policies on higher education along directions suggested by proven scientific theories and evidences of sound practices.

The president said that policy makers on their own part were expected to generate policy problems requiring scientific investigations and information.

“Researchers would then devote quality time to finding relevant and timely scientific information on what makes higher education tick in various parts of the world and share these with policy makers for possible adaptation at the local and national levels.”

Odekunle said the purpose for the conference was to share knowledge, ideas and create knowledge that could be utilised. (NAN)
