Professionals

Akure, May 8, 2018 (NAN) Ondo State Commissioner for Natural Resources, Alhaji Rasheed Badmus, has appealed to successful professionals to assist in reducing joblessness and poverty in the country by creating opportunities for indigent relations and others in the society.
Badmus made the appeal at a brief sendoff party organised in honour of Mr Mayowa Aliu, the former State Coordinator, National Directorate of Employment (NDE).
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Aliu retired after 31 years in service as deputy director, having attained the age of 60.
“Let me admonish those that have reached the peak of their careers and who are successful in various fields of human endeavour to lift up the hands of the unemployed in society.
“I believe that if this is done, the high rate of unemployment in our society will be drastically reduced.”
Badmus, who is a nephew to Aliu, said that he (Aliu) was instrumental to his success in life.
“If I had been abandoned years ago by the celebrant, I would have ended up as a palm wine tapper in my village.
“Glory be to God that my uncle has been the reason behind my success, having lived with him for almost 17 years.
“If all well-to-do persons in society can emulate my uncle, social vices will be minimal and our society will be better,” Badmus said.
Also speaking, Mrs Yetunde Dada, the Chief Accountant of NDE in the state, described the celebrant as an accomplished civil servant, deserving of honour and respect.
Dada admonished other NDE staff members to emulate the celebrant’s “unquestionable character”, describing him as cool-headed, humble, peace-loving and having the interest of other people at heart.
In his remarks, Mr Remi Ilori, the acting state NDE Coordinator, said that Aliu promoted peace and unity in the agency while in service and related with his subordinates as his friends.
“Today, we thank God for your life. No influence of power or wealth made you to turn your back on your friends and colleagues.
“You are a man with moderate lifestyle, never indulged in excesses, a tact and diplomatic man.
“In spite of being a Musilm, you are never resentful of Christianity but you see religion as a personal relationship between man and God,” he said.
Responding, Aliu thanked God for sparing his life to retirement and also expressed appreciation to members of staff for their support and cooperation.
He urged them to be diligent, hardworking and give their best to the agency.
He further urged them to shun hatred and emulate good deeds, adding that their should be mutual respect and understanding between subordinates and their superiors.
“Cooperation is very vital in moving the civil service forward,” Aliu said.
He further charged them to develop themselves by acquiring new skills and knowledge.(NAN)
