Lagos, Jan. 16, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Monday fixed Jan. 26 for sentencing a barber, Bamgbose Boluwatife, and a carpenter, Habeeb Adeoye, for stealing a motorcycle valued at N125,000.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Osinbajo, fixed the date after Boluwatife and Adeoye pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

Osinbajo said the accused ordered the accused should be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos, and adjourned for fact and sentencing.

The offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 carries a penalty of three years jail term, while Section 409 provides two years.

Boluwatife, 18, resides at Sabo area of Ilaro in Ogun, while Adeoye, 21, lives at Kola Odunsi Street, Ipaja in Lagos.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, told the court that the accused committed the offences with others still at large sometime in July 2016 at about 9.00.p.m. at Ikola Odunsi, Meiran, a Lagos suburb.

Egunjobi said the accused stole a motorcycle with registration no. WDE 516 U, property of Mr Banatunde Apesin, the complainant.

“The complainant gave his motorcycle to Adeoye to use for just one day but he failed to return it.

“All efforts made by the complainant to reach Adeoye proved abortive as he relocated to another area in Lagos State,’’ he said.

Egunjobi said the complainant reported the matter to the police and it was discovered that the motorcycle had been sold.

“The accused were later arrested in Isefun area of Ikotun, Lagos, where they sold the motorcycle for N25, 000.’’
