Guarantee Pensions asset grows by N131 b in 5 years

Lagos, Jan. 15, 2017 (NAN) The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of First Guarantee Pensions Limited (FGPL)) says it has grown its asset from N35 billion to N131 billion in five years.
Mr Issa Aremu, Chairman of the committee, FGPL who spoke at an interactive session on Sunday in Lagos, said that the company accumulated loses was at N385 million when it took over the management of the company in 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that IMC was appointed by the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) to manage the affairs of FGPL in 2011 because of infraction.
Aremu said that the profit of the company was close to two billion as pension contributors and the company has also increased from 105,000 to 250,000.
He further said that the pension office has fully resume operation after a disruption by Mr Nze Duru, the former Vice Chairman.
“FGPL has fully resumed and the workers and property are secured. IMC will run the operation of the company until PENCOM returns it back to the management,’’ the FGPL chairman said.
Aremu however, condemned the invasion of the company and described it as an abuse of integrity especially because Duru was a former law maker.
Mr Chima Akalezi, Managing Director, FGPL who spoke on the invasion on the company said that PENCOM asked Duru to resign in 2011 to enable the IMC come into the company and restructure it.
Akalezi said that Duru invaded the office with some thugs to cart away some files which implicated his siblings, also former workers who defrauded the company but the police arrested and detained him.
“On Jan. 11, 2017, Duru in company of armed gunmen invaded the company’s Head Office situated at 68 Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Ikeja, disrupted the operations and held members of management, staff and customers of the PFA hostage.

“The Police immediately intervened to restore normalcy and secured the PFA’s office and arrested Duru and his cohorts,’’ the managing director said.

He assured the clients that the incident has no impact on the pension funds under management of the PFA and that normalcy has been restored in FGPL head office and business has since resumed.
Meanwhile, NAN gathered that Duru  and other suspects would appeal at a Federal High Court , Lagos on Monday. (NAN)
