Kaduna, Dec. 13, 2017 (NAN) The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) and other groups in Kaduna State on Wednesday expressed support for the initiative of the Inspector-General of Police to reform the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for better performance.

The PCRC, Unified Nigerian Youths and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) among others, expressed this during a solidarity rally in Kaduna.

The Chairman of Kaduna State (PCRC), Dr Emmanuel Nosiri, said during the rally that the groups supported the reformation of SARS in enhancing the safety of lives and property of Nigerians.

“The increasing attacks and kidnapping in the country call for reformation of SARS for better performance.

“Recently, the increasing rate of armed robbery attacks and kidnapping along the highways and communities in the country is not only notorious but worrisome,’’ Nosiri said.

He urged all Nigerians to rally round the SARS to enable it to protect their interests.

“We appeal to the Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Ibrahim Idris, to re-organise, re-strategise and re-position SARS for greater efficiency,’’ he said.

The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, Mr Agyole Abeh, who received the groups, promised that their request not to scrap SARS but to reform it will be presented to the I-G.

The commissioner, who was represented by DCP Operation, Abdulrahman Ahmad, said their support not to scrap SARS but to reform it was an evidence of good community policing.

“Police are servants of the people, and are not from another planet. We are Nigerians and part of the larger society.

“We have to behave like human beings; there can be mistakes of operation which are not intended.

He appealed to those calling for the scrapping of SARS to be patient and await the results of the reformation of the SARS.

Abeh said that the Nigeria Police remained committed to protecting lives and property of all Nigerians and discharging  its duties professionally. (NAN)
