Benin, April 25, 2018 (NAN) A group, Tonwei Refinery Ltd, says it has secured approval to set up a 30,000 barrel per day capacity petroleum refinery at Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo.

The group’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Tongubor Timi, disclosed this at a business meeting with the chairman of the Ovia South-West Council, Mr Destiny Enabulele, on Wednesday in Benin.

Timi said the refinery would be constructed on a 5000-hectare piece of land at the Siluko axis of the council area.

He explained that the capacity of the proposed refinery could be increased beyond its inaugural production of 30,000 barrels per day.

According to him, “When completed, the proposed refinery will attain 30,000 barrel per day capacity within the first 12 months and 100,000 barrel capacity per day in 36 months’’.

Timi added that the proposed refinery was expected to generate 2000 direct jobs and 7000 indirect jobs, upon completion.

He said the choice of Ovia South-West local government area was “dictated by its proximity to the sea, to facilitate the evacuation of refined products for both the local and the international markets’’.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that according to the group head, the company has secured approval from the Ministry of Petroleum Resources for the proposed refinery.

Enabulele, in his response, thanked the Chairman of the Tonwei Group for the choice of Ovia South-West for the siting of the refinery.

He assured them of security of the lives of the employees and the assets of the proposed refinery. (NAN)
