Abuja, March.13, 2017 (NAN) The Power for All (PFA), an international  non-governmental power organisation, has  called for accelerated implementation of polices to develop renewable energy markets in  the country.

A statement by Mrs Ify Malo, PFA’s County Director in Abuja on Monday, said that the call became crucial because of the importance of renewable energy technologies in achieving universal energy access.

Malo said the implementation of the policies would attract investors into the markets and help speed up progress in energy provision, especially in the rural areas.

She said PFA, a global industry-led campaign on promotion  of  distributed renewable energy, will launch its national and global “Call to Action” publication, to give direction on  how to grow the renewable energy market.

She said that the publication was from its latest academic research, extensive stakeholder consultation and experience of its campaign team in canvassing for renewable energy production in the country.

She said the PFA’s “Call to Action Publication“ would be the culmination of the first phase of its advocacy for renewable development and acceleration of Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) market growth in the country.

According to her, the publication, which will be launched in Abuja on March 22, will highlight policies and programmes associated with the growth of  renewable market.

Malo said that the publication would also describe how the power industry, government, civil society and other stakeholders could collaborate to create an enabling environment for the development of renewable markets in the country.

She said that the commitments to action from key stakeholders, such as renewable energy associations and governments, on how they planned to support DRE market growth would also be discussed.

She said the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Power, Mr Louis Edozien would present the Federal Government’s renewable energy key policies, programmes and processes  designed  to affect market growth in the off-grid sector.

“We will also have presentations from the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN) on its commitments to drive the renewable energy sector in Nigeria,” she said.

She called on key partners in the renewable energy sector to make a commitment in the publication by supporting policies and programmes to promote the growth of the market.

Power for All is a global, industry-led campaign to promote distributed renewable energy.

The campaign was established in 2012 when a number of organisations, including the Global Off-Grid Lighting Association, SolarAid, Sierra Club, IFC, d.light and others  saw the need for a coordinated effort to advocate

supportive polices to help renewable energy markets flourish. (NAN)
