Keffi (Nasarawa State), Feb.13, 2017 (NAN) Buhari Charity Organisation, a non-governmental organisation, said on Monday it disbursed N6 million to 600 women in Nasarawa State in 2016.

Mr Suleiman Modibo-Masaka, the National Chairman of Board of Trustee of the of the organisation, announced this on Monday in Keffi while addressing the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the  organisation’s 2017 plan of action.

“I want to disclose to you that last year, the organisation disbursed N6 million to 600 women in Keffi,  Nasarawa State to enable them to start their businesses.

“Each of them got between N200,000 and N20,000 depending on the viability of their business plans,’’ he said.

He said the disbursements were business startup packages for the beneficiaries.

“The body is aware of the challenges faced by these special groups of people in the society. We believe the gesture had impacted positively on their standard of living,’’ he said.

He said the organisation had expanded the gesture to cover more widows and orphanages.

According to him, the 2017 plan includes the training of the less privileged to acquire new skills for self reliance.

“We are all aware that this organisation was formed with the aim of promoting peace, unity and progress of our dear country.

“We also have the mandate to as well assist widows, orphans and the needy in the society.

“The body has a mandate to award scholarships to deserving and less privileged youths.

“Therefore, the 2017 plan shall witness the up-scaling of all these mandates.

“We would extend our education grants to indigent persons willing to study.

“The body is committed to the improvement of the standard of education as well as reducing the burden of school fees on parents,’’ he said.

Modibo-Masaka  said: “We have been assisting widows, orphans and students with cash in different parts of the country; for example, in 2016, over 300 women in Garaki District of FCT benefited from our programme.’’
