Lafia, Nov. 2, 2017 (NAN) The Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Nasarawa state branch has commenced a two-week bio-metric data capturing to authenticate its members.
Mohammed Gayam, State Commandant of the group told to journalists on Thursday at the commencement of the exercise in Lafia that the exercise will help to flush out criminal elements from the group.
He said that the exercise was necessitated due to the activities of criminal elements who claim membership of the group to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public.
“The activities of these elements are tarnishing the image of our outfit despite our imminence contribution to peace and security of the state.
“So, this exercise is aimed at assisting us to have comprehensive data of our members in order to prevent criminals from hijacking our structures,” he added.
He said their personnel are operating in all communities and villages of the 13 local government areas of the state.
He also explained that the group had arrested a lot of criminals in many parts of the state and handed them over to the police and other law enforcement agencies for prosecution.
He therefore reinstated their commitment to partner other conventional security agencies to properly patrol the state, especially rural areas where there is no police presence.
Mr Deddy Osu, the Chief Executive Officer of Millennium ICT, Consulting Firm in charge of the verification, said so far no fake officer has been identified.
He said the exercise would last for two-weeks and appealed for logistics support to the group to enable them function effectively. (NAN)
