Dutse, Aug. 13, 2017 (NAN) The Global Partnership for Education (GPE), a World Bank supported programme, has supported 140 nomadic schools in Jigawa with N98 million grant to enhance scholarship.

Alhaji Ali Manu, the Executive Secretary, Jigawa State Agency for Nomadic Education, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Sunday.

Manu said that each of the 140 schools received N700, 000 of the grant.

He explained that N400, 000 would be used by each school to provide instructional materials for the students.

The executive secretary said that N300, 000 was meant for the provision of playing items in the Early Child Care and Development (ECCD) sections of the benefiting schools.

‘‘Each school was given N700, 000 grant. The schools will use N400,000 to buy instructional materials and N300,000 will be used for the enhancement of ECCD sections of the schools.

‘‘Some will use the money to renovate the schools, some will provide furniture, while others will provide uniform for the pupils, depending on the immediate needs of each of the schools,’’ the executive secretary said.

According to him, each of the schools collaborated with its School Based Management Committee (SBMC) and opened a bank account for the grant to ensure judiciousness, transparency and probity in expending the fund.

Manu, who commended the GPE for the gesture, noted that, ‘‘it will go a long way in ensuring that nomadic pupils received quality basic education.’’

He further stated that it would also enhance school attendance and retention among children of nomads in the state.

‘‘I am optimistic it will also boost the level of literacy among children at the grassroots,” he added.

The executive secretary further said that another 172 nomadic schools were expected to benefit from a similar gesture in the next phase of the programme.

‘‘This is the first phase of the programme and in the second phase, the remaining 172 of our nomadic schools are expected to be given a similar grant by GPE.’’

He said, ‘‘all reports reaching us indicate that the benefiting schools are spending the money judiciously.’’ (NAN)
