Shabu (Nasarawa), April 13, 2017 (NAN) Mother and child Care Enhancement Foundation ((McCEF), an organisation run by Hajiya Salamatu Al-makura, Nasarawa State Governors’s wife, has trained 62 children, youths and women in IDPs camp in Shabu on different vocational skills to make them self reliant.

Addressing  the graduation ceremony in Shabu, Lafia Local Government Area on Thursday, the governor’s wife said the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) were trained on various skills to avoid idleness.

She was represented by Mr Mary Enwongulu, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, in the state.

According to her, “the gesture will promote productivity among the internally displaced people who are forced out of their places of abode”.

She stressed that it would as well keep them away from criminality, adding that “an idle mind is a devils workshop”.

Al-makura explained that it would equip them with basic techniques of contributing to societal groups

The governor’s wife said the IDPs were trained on computer operations and maintenance, hairdressing, tailoring, fashion designing, interior decorations, beads and soap making.

She said that the programme was initiated as part of her efforts to empower youths and the less privileged in the state and Nigeria.

The governor’s wife, however, promised to do everything possible to assist the less privileged in the society to improve their standard of living through the project.

Al-makura noted that such skills would keep them busy in the camp in pursuit of their legitimate livelihood and encourage them to promote harmonious relationships.

In their separate remarks, Ubah Salisu and Rasheeda Mohammed, who represented the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to the sponsor for empowering them, adding that “this is a new dawn and has given us hope”. (NAN)
