Asaba, Feb. 25, 2017 (NAN) Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta has warned that he will not hesitate to drop any political appointee who fails to foster good governance in the life of his administration.

Okowa made his feelings known on Saturday at an enlarged State PDP stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Asaba.

He said political appointees should demonstrate their loyalty to the party by supporting the programmes of the party.

He also advised all political appointees in his administration to present their scorecards to their constituencies for assessment of what they did to promote PDP.

“By May 29, this administration would be clocking two years in office.

“All political appointees are expected to go to their various constituencies and present a scorecard of what they have done for the party.

“It is your scorecard that will reveal your loyalty to the party and any appointee who fail to get a satisfactory scorecard, should consider himself sacked.

“If you are with me and you are not supporting the party that put me there, then you are not with me.

“As party faithfuls, we must know that the unity and progress of our party comes first,” Okowa said.

The governor charged all appointees in his administration to work assiduously to straighten the unity of the party at the wards and local government levels.

He said his administration was committed to enhancing the living condition of the people of Delta.

Okowa also advised party chairmen in the state to desist from conducting themselves in manners that undermined party unity adding that they should remain above board in their dealings.

“We all know that the local government elections is approaching. So very soon many people will start indicating their interest in contesting for various elective positions.

“I want to remind all our party leaders that you are expected to be firm and above board in all your dealings.

“Let us not allow personal interest to undermine the unity of our great party.”

Earlier in his welcome address, the state Chairman of PDP, Mr. Kingsley Esiso, urged party leaders to foster the bonds of unity among party members.

He charged party executives at all levels to use their various positions to affect the lives of fellow party members.

“As a leader, let the people in your ward feel your impact, do the best you can to encourage your fellow party members.

“You cannot as leaders go to your wards and start playing decisive politics.

“We must realise that we have a responsibility to the party and it is our duty to promote the interest of our party at all times,” Esiso said.

He assured PDP faithfuls in the state that the party would provide a level-playing ground for all aspirants for the forthcoming local government polls in the state.

He said that he would not impose anybody on the party for purposes of the election.

“As a leader, am not in the business of imposing anybody on the party.

“My loyalty to the party is to make my contributions to the unity and progress of the party. As members of the PDP, we must remain united,” he said.

The meeting was attended by PDP leaders across the state as well as some National Assembly members including Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi. (NAN)
