Gov.Obaseki urges new appointees relocate to their wards

Benin, June 20, 2017 (NAN) Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo has directed the newly appointed Senior Special Assistants (SSA’s) and Special Assistants (SA’s) to relocate to their various wards to perform optimally in their new positions.

Obaseki stated this on Tuesday in Benin while declaring close a two-day workshop organized for the appointees.

Represented by his deputy, Mr Philip Shiabu, the governor warned the new appointees that government would not hesitate to sack any of them found wanting in anyway.

“You should provide evidence of leave of absence in your present employment to focus on the task of providing good governance to Edo people.

“The essence of the relocation order to your wards is to ensure effective grassroots representation in the governance of the state.

“The present administration is very concerned about development of the grassroots, so I urge you to promptly report any issue in your ward for government’s attention.

“Ensure that you participate actively in ward level politics as part of your duties to ensure a strong and united party at that level,’’ he said.

On his part, Secretary to the State Government, Mr Osarodion Ogie, advised the new appointees to ensure that they were accessible at all times as they were government representatives at the ward level.

Ogie further urged them to be of exemplary behaviour by being punctual, obedient to traffic laws, and humble given their positions.

The state’s Head of Service, Mrs Gladys Idaho, also advised the new appointees not to meddle in the affairs oif civil servants, but to collaborate with them to deliver dividends of democracy to people of the state.

The new political appointees include 192 special assistants and 54 senior special assistants. (NAN)
