Gov. Masari urges NYSC to post majority of corps members to schools

Katsina, Jan. 26, 2017(NAN) Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State on Thursday called on the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) to post majority of corps members deployed to the state to schools for the development of education sector.

NAN reports that no fewer than 5,000 corps members were deployed to the state for the 2016 Batch B stream II service year.

Masari made the call at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2016 batch B stream II corps members deployed to the state.

‘’I am overwhelmed to hear from the State Coordinator that no fewer than 5,000 corps members were deployed to the state.

‘’This is a welcome development, as you are aware, education is a priority area of my administration.

“Most of these young Nigerian graduates who have full of energy, talent and drive will be effectively utilized in education sector,’’ he said.

Masari, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youths and Sports, Alhaji Hussaini Dangani, said that the administration would continue to support the scheme for its benefit in nation building.

He urged the youths to ensure that the host communities benefit from them during their service year through hard work and dedication to duty.

‘’I urge you to pay special attention to lectures that are targeted at giving you insight into the culture, tradition and language of the people.

‘’Strive to learn how to communicate and blend with them and by so doing, the young ones especially the pupils and students will harvest the wealth of your knowledge,’’ he said.

In his remarks, the State NYSC Director, Mr Okpo John said that orientation course would focus on physical, mental and social activities including skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development training.

He said those activities were aimed at preparing the young Nigerians for the task of making the country a better place.

John commended the state government for the support it had been giving to the scheme.(NAN)
