Kaiama (Bayelsa), Aug. 15, 2017 (NAN) Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa has advised youth corps members against engaging in any act criminality during their service year in the state.
Dickson gave the advice at the passing out ceremony of the 2017 batch ‘A’ stream II of the NYSC on Tuesday at their Orientation Camp in Kaiama, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.
The Governor was represented by Mr Serana Dokubo-Spiff, the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman, NYSC Governing Board.
“As you proceed to the next stage of the service year, I urge you, while in your various places of your primary assignment to shun all forms of crime.
“Always ensure that the evil forces do not influence you as you perform the National Service.
“Above all, always be security conscious in your environment,” he said.
Dickson congratulated them for completing the orientation programme, which he said, was the first in the four-phase programme of the NYSC.
“This is an ample opportunity to contribute your quota toward the upliftment of the nation and Bayelsa.
“As a government, we are most excited to receive you. I urge all of you to be good ambassadors of the NYSC and Bayelsa government.
“I urge you to be committed to serve by imbibing the lessons of the orientation course.
“Your service in the area of health care delivery, education and infrastructure is fully needed.
“Work closely with the leadership of your host community by bringing to bear your knowledge and skills for accelerated transformation in those areas,” the governor said.
Mr Loto Bolade, Coordinator of NYSC, said the corps members had been grilled on relevant national core values, productivity, security, citizenship and leadership.
“They have also been imbued with extra skills and entrepreneurship knowledge as a result of the week long skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme in over 12 skills sets on camp.
“The skills are: ICT, agro-allied business, ceramics and construction, bead making, pastries and catering, among others,” Bolade said. (NAN)
