Bauchi, March 29, 2018 (NAN)  Gov. Mohammed  Abubakar of Bauchi State on Thursday charged  the newly appointed caretaker committee chairmen of local governments in the state to ensure accountability.

‎

Abubakar gave the charge at the swearing-in ceremony of the council helmsmen of the 20 local governments in Bauchi.

‎

“Embrace accountability and responsiveness in administering your councils,’’ he told them.

‎

The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Nuhu Gidado, advised them to collaborate with traditional rulers, security agents, and other stakeholders for rapid and socio-economic development.

‎

According to him, their choice for the challenging positions was informed by their loyalty and contributions to the state and the nation.

‎

“I advise you to keep the system going to enable the government fulfill its mandates to the electorate.

‎

“Local government councils have vital role to play in the provision of social services and other fundamental needs as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

‎

“Our administration attaches great importance to probity, accountability and strict adherence to due-process in governance as indicated by its action since assumption of office.

 

“Justify the confidence reposed in you,” he said.

 

Abubakar urged them to be fair in their dealings with all manners of people, for effective service delivery.

‎

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor had dissolved the former Caretaker committees of the local governments in 2017. ‎(NAN)
