Lagos, July 25, 2017 (NAN) Herbert Mensah, President of the Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU), on Tuesday called for  collaboration between the Ghanaian body and the Nigerian Rugby Football Union (NRFU) to promote the sport in the sub-region.

Mensah in a congratulatory message to Kelechi Mbagwu, the newly elected president of the Nigerian Rugby Football Federation (NRFF), urged the body to enhance the development of the game at the sub-regional level.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the election into the federation was held on July 20 in Abuja.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, inaugurated Mbagwu along with 12 other board members of the NRFF after the election.

Mensah said Nigeria and Ghana should join forces together to promote the sport in the sub-region.

“On behalf of Ghana Rugby, I would like to extend our warmest congratulations on the successful completion of the Federation’s elections and specifically on your election as President.

“We trust that the new executive structure will resolve some of the challenges in the sport and also lead to great success and achievements in the interest of rugby at large.

“I have stated in public that Rugby Federations and Unions in ECOWAS should unite to strengthen Rugby in our region.

“ Nigeria and Ghana should take the lead,’’ he said. (NAN)
