Investigation
Berlin, Aug. 7, 2018 (dpa/NAN) German police on Tuesday said that authorities were investigating a suspected arson attack at a refugee camp in the western city of Bergisch Gladbach where 10 people were injured.
The fire broke out in a repurposed shipping container that housed refugees.
Nine people were seriously injured in the blaze and one other person was slightly injured.
Police say they are investigating a 29-year-old resident of the container on suspicion of setting the fire, adding that the suspect was one of those injured.
Eight of those seriously injured are asylum seekers and the ninth is an employee of the facility. They were taken to hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation.
Another refugee suffered only light injuries.
The fire brigade said that after examining the charred remains of the accommodation, they had determined it was no longer inhabitable.
The fire brigade said its 56 residents have been re-housed in nearby accommodation to house the remaining refugees. (dpa/NAN)
