Sponsorship

Lagos, April 24, 2018 (NAN) Popular comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka, has appealed to corporate organisations in the country to sponsor education-based programmes on television and radio stations.
Adeyinka said that would contribute to improving the standard of education in the country.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that lack of such programmes had contributed to the current fallen standard of the country’s educational system.
The comedian said that he was a victim of such circumstance.
He said that he had to solicit the financial assistance of several organisations to sponsor an educational programme, but to no avail.
Adeyinka described such a development as discouraging.
He said that most corporate organisations were more interested in sponsoring entertainment programmes which would fetch them instant gains.
He said that the corporate organisations could not be blamed for this apathy.
He pleaded with them to impact on the nation’s educational sector, which he said was fast losing its grip on students.
Adeyinka said that when students were exposed to different educative programmes on the electronic media, they would minimise investing their time on frivolities.
“Corporate organisations have a huge role to play in ensuring that the standard of education is improved on.
“ They should ensure that they sponsor educational programmes on radio and television stations.
“We know that whatever the children see and learn from the screen stick permanently into their brains.
“They do not forget them; so, it a very good way of imparting knowledge to children.
“ As we have the Cowbellpedia Mathematics competition, we should have more on other subjects.
“These will afford children to learn during their leisure in their various homes.
“With this, crime rate will be reduced and the students will invest their time on reasonable ventures, rather than on frivolities,” he said.
Adeyinka said that schools should engage more in educational competitions while prizes should be available for the winners as motivations.
“This will increase the students’ zeal toward their education,” he said. (NAN)
