Lagos, May 22, 2018 (NAN) The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, on Tuesday said robust transport infrastructure was key to the growth of the nation’s economy.
Gbajabiamila spoke in Lagos while presenting computerised diagnostic tools to 52 auto technicians in his Surulere 1 Federal Constituency.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the presentation followed an earlier training for the beneficiaries on the use of the tools.
Gbajabiamila also gave each of the technicians N50, 000 to establish their workshops.
The lawmaker said well-developed transport infrastructure was important to ease movement of people and goods as well as catalyze economic activities.
With adequate investment in road, rail and other transport infrastructure, he said the economy of Nigeria would grow by leaps and bounds.
“Robust transport infrastructure is pivotal to the development of the economy through easy movement of people and goods.
“This explains why most advanced economies invest a lot in their transport infrastructure,’’ he said.
The majority leader lauded the contributions of the auto technicians toward easy movement of people and goods through maintenance of vehicles to keep them on the road.
Gbajabiamila said it was in recognition of this that he decided to support mechanics in his constituency.
He said he decided to pursue the skill-based empowerment with the training and tools provided to enhance the capacities of the beneficiaries.
The lawmaker promised to continue to impact the lives of his constituents and pledged more support to the technicians.
Also speaking on the occasion, the State Commissioner for Sports, Mr Agboola Dabiri, commended Gbajabiamila’s gesture, saying it would go a long way to help the beneficiaries.
He urged the beneficiaries to put the items to good use for the betterment of the economy and the people.
Mr Shola Sholagbade, the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Motor Mechanic and Technicians Association of Nigeria (MOMTAN), thanked Gbajabiamila for his consistent support to the association.
He said the association would ensure that the beneficiaries put them into good use. (NAN)
