Abuja, June 8, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Friday, sentenced a 25-year-old gardener, Auwal Mohammed, to three months in prison for criminal trespass and attempt to commit theft.
The judge, Inuwa Maiwada, however, gave the convict an option to pay N4,000 fine and advised him to be of good behaviour.
Mohammed of no fixed address was convicted on two-count charge.
The convict admitted committing the offences and urged the court to temper justice with mercy as he did not know what came over him.
The prosecutor, Ifeoma Ukahga, told the court that the matter was reported by Hajara Usman of Life Camp, Abuja, at Life Camp Police Station on June 4.
She said on that same date at about 7.30 p.m., Mohammed went to Usman’s compound and attempted to steal her electricity generator.
Ukagha said the convict was caught in the process and he confessed to the crime and begged for forgiveness during police investigation.
She added that the offence contravened sections 348 and 95 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
