Gang-rape: Man, 28, gets N500,000 bail

Lagos, Jan. 24, 2018 (NAN) A 28-year-old, Ayokunle Bailey, who allegedly gang-raped a 14 year-old girl with two other men, was on Wednesday granted a temporary reprieve by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Folakemi Davies -Abegunde granted the accused N500, 000 bail with two sureties in like amount.

The accused, an undertaker, who resides at No. 35, Labinjo St., Mushin, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and rape.

Bailey, however, pleaded, not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Raphael Donny told the court that the offences was committed on Dec. 19, 2017 at the apartment of the accused.

“The 14- year –old girl went to her friend’s house at the above address to play.

“The accused and his two friends that are now at large, called the girl into his room and they gang-raped her.

“Since then, the accused and his other accomplices have been on the run until three days ago when the police got an information about his whereabouts,” he said.

“The accused was arrested by the police.”

The offences contravened Sections 259 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offence of rape carries life imprisonment in Lagos State.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Feb. 12 for mention. (NAN)
