FUT Minna trains 400 secondary students on ICT – VC

Minna, June 12, 2018 (NAN) The Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, has trained 400 secondary students on Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Prof. Abdullahi Bala, the Vice-Chancellor of FUT, who presented certificates to the 400 trainees on Tuesday in Minna, said the participants were drawn from Maryam Babangida Girls Science College, Minna, Government Technical School Chanchaga, Day Secondary School, Basso.

Others include: Army Day Secondary school Minna, Day Secondary school Maitumbi, Government Secondary School Minna, Day Secondary school Tunga and Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Secondary Minna.

Bala said the aim of the one month training programme was to equip the students with the pre-requisite ICT knowledge needed in the 21st century.

According to him, the university is committed to training of skilled manpower that can transform the natural resources of the country.

He explained that the university that was endowed with ICT experts that would continue to initiate more training programmes for secondary school students.

“With this training, we have formed a friendship with you and we will continue to monitor your progress,’’ he said.

Alhaji Umar Bahago, the Emir of Minna, who was represented by Prof. Mohammad Maiturare, the Vice-Chancellor of Ibrahim Babangida University, commended FUT for initiating the training programme.

According to Bahago, the Emirate Council is pleased with the community development programme initiated by FUT.

“ The training will make students in the state to be fully engaged toward contributing their quota to the development of the state and the country at large.’’

Speaking at the event, Dr Adamu Mohammad, the Director, ICT of FUT, urged the state to equip its secondary schools with ultra modern computer laboratories and engaged qualified computer teachers.

He said that time has come to exposed senior secondary school students to E-exams module that could prepare them for their final examinations, as this would enable them to perform credibly during WAEC, NECO and JAMB examinations.(NAN)
