FUT Minna says it’s ready to participate in Zone A prelims of 2017 NUGA

Minna, March 25, 2017 (NAN) The sports contingent of Federal University of Technology, Minna will participate in the forthcoming Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) Zone A preliminaries scheduled for the Federal University Dutse in Jigawa.

Lydia Legbu, the university’s Public Relations Officer, said in a press statement in Minna that their Sports Committee had concluded all arrangements concerning athletes’ registration.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the preliminaries are slated to hold from April 2 to April 8.

Legbu quoted the university’s Chief Sports Officer, Saidu Musa, as saying the registration was as stipulated by NUGA laws for participation.

“Already, a member of the sports committee and an Information Technology staff (from our institution) are presently at the Federal University of Agriculture in Makurdi for verification of our athletes’ names submitted for the Games,’’ Musa had said.

On camping arrangements for the athletes, he disclosed that there would be no closed camp for athletes due to lack of time.

He however explained that the athletes had been training individually during the mid-semester break and the coaches would key into their training schedules as soon as they return to school.

Legbu disclosed that the institution’s hockey, scrabble and high jump male and female teams, as well as pole vault male athlete have
been granted automatic qualification for the Games proper.

The 25th edition of the NUGA Games will hold at the Federal University of Agriculture in Makurdi from April 19 to April 30.

In a related development, Zone A of the Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) Council has appointed Prof. Abdulmojeed Ijaiya as member of the Technical Study Committee.(NAN)
