Scholarship

Ilorin, Sept. 5, 2017 (NAN) Twelve-year-old Latifat Ahmed and 11-year-old Kabirat Oyewale have secured scholarship awards for their primary and secondary education after their victorious outings at the ongoing All-Kwara Primary Schools Athletics Championships.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), “Let’s-Go-Girls’’ Fund, Mary Onyali, who disclosed this to newsmen on Tuesday in Ilorin said the scholarship would be sponsored by the Fund.
She said Ahmed was awarded the scholarship after winning the gold medal in the 100 metres event, while Oyewale also got lucky after triumphing in the 400 metres event.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ahmed is a Primary 6 student of Ansar-ul Islam Primary School, Igbo-Owu in Ifelodun Local Government Area (LGA) of Kwara.
On her part, Oyewale is a product of Iyeru-Okin LGEA School in Offa in the Offa LGA of Kwara.
“The scholarship will see Ahmed through her secondary education and she would be kitted and supported by the fund during the period.’’ Onyali said.
She also said the project would see Oyewale through the one year remaining to complete her primary education and then sponsor the secondary school education.
The Fund CEO said Ahmed and Oyewale were two of the beneficiaries of the project alongside other young girls to be discovered in future athletics competitions.
Onyali disclosed that the “Let’s-Go-Girls’’ Fund project was initiated by some active and retired sports women in Nigeria.
“It was established by my humble self, Chioma Ajunwa, Funke Oshonaike, Ruth Ogbeifo and Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor to support female athletes in Nigeria,’’ she said.
Onyali explained that the Fund was also initiated to provide insurance cover for amateur athletes who would participate in any national competition, so as to protect them from injury and death.
“One objective of the Fund is to encourage all female athletes in the country to succeed in their career and I want to pledge the Fund’s continuous support to ensuring the grooming of Nigerian women athletes as future world-beaters,’’ she said.(NAN)
